Do servers at restaurants find it annoying when you are overly nice?

Today me and some friends were having lunch and the place was swamped and they only had two or three servers for the entire restaurant and it was a pretty big restaurant. Our server was awesome even though it was really busy and we tried to be as nice as we could to make his day a little easier. When we’ve been there before it always seems like they are understaffed.
Do servers find it annoying when customers are overly nice? Do they like it when customers are really understanding?
We did leave a generous tip even though he probably did pretty good on tips today with as many tables that he was covering.

How do servers feel about Vegetarians ordering the cheap appetizers and house salads?

My husband and I are vegetarians and our bills at restaurants are always really cheap because we rarely get a main dish. I sometimes feel like the servers **** us, especially at fancier places, because they think they are going to get a lousy tip. Just wondering.

Oh and FYI we tip atleast 25% if the server is nice.

Sometimes servers work before or after the restaurant is open/closed. Legally, how long is management allowed to ask for work out of his/her employees without being tipped without violating the law?

I’m a new server at a restaurant and have been on the floor about three weeks. I average 15% almost perfectly (I get some big and some very small with few average tips mixed in). I’d like to know what more experienced servers earn so that I have an idea on what I can expect as I gain more experience.

Thanks!

I am starting training as a server next week, and I was wondering how tipping works. Do servers get their tips at the end of the shift or do they pay tips and hourly wage on the weekly checks?

Is it appropriate for restaurant servers to ask for tips? What would you do if you were asked to tip?

Assuming you are in a restaurant with your friends, and you were paying the bill. You were a little sloppy and tipped less than usual. Instead of taking that tip, the employees ‘suggest’ that a 10% tip was more appropriate, implying, or asking, you to pay more tips.

Is this acceptable behavior from servers? What would you do?

Hi, I was just wondering how much cocktail servers make in tips at dave and busters? How much on an average night and how much on a Friday or Saturday? Is being a cocktail server a lot different then working in the dining room? Thank you!

What does it mean when people say restaurant servers are taxed on the total bill?

In answering another question about tipping in restaurants, I saw several people who said that servers are taxed on the total bill, so they would lose money if you don’t tip on the whole amount.

Does anyone know what this means exactly? I worked as a server in a fine restaurant for years and I never in my life heard of such a thing.

The only thing we had to PAY was we had to pay the credit card fees on the tips on credit cards, so of course a cash tip was always appreciated. But we never had to pay taxes on the bill. I don’t even understand what this means to be honest. Thanks!
